This method of breeding dogs consists of collecting semen from a male and depositing it into the anterior vagina of a female.  This semen sample could be obtained by direct collection of a male in our office or could be from a fresh chilled shipment from a sample obtained at a distant site.  Timing to perform this insemination is determined by vaginal smears and progesterone results. We recommend repeating the insemination two days later.  Insemination is performed by loading a syringe and pipette with semen.  Once in place, the semen is deposited in the anterior vagina. The bitch is then positioned on an inclined table with her rear quarters up and maintained for ten minutes following insemination.
